Snake River Canyon at sunset

A mantle of stillness envelops me as I walk in the periwinkle light of evening. Cool sable supplants the marigold brightness of afternoon. Even sentinel-straight teasel and the downy pompoms of dying tumble mustard disappear into the slateness of a steel-gray stream, evaporating like jet trails in the dusky half-light.
